You’re probably planning your summer holidays, but in the fashion world summer is almost over. As stores are starting to put out their winter collections, it’s the perfect time to start looking for that gorgeous wedding dress just in time for Christmas.
Vintage style is everywhere in the fashion world, and bridal wear is no different. Inspired by the glamorous 1920s and 1950s, shorter, embellished dresses are the way to go.
Genuine 1920s or 1950s dresses are almost impossible to find (and cost a fortune when you do find them), so luckily for us there are lots of vintage inspired dresses out there.
Lavin’s latest range of wedding dresses have a ‘flapper girl’ look to them, using tiers, embellishments and feathers, such as this lovely ostrich feather-trimmed dress.
The vintage look also means that wedding dresses are going to be shorter this winter-so it’s time to get those pins out! The black sash on this Vera Wang dress makes this dress even more stylish as more and more people are bringing black into their weddings.
I also love this gorgeous ‘Lourve’ dress from Monsoon, which has the ‘flapper girl’ look to it and is ideal for those who want a little colour in their dress.
For those of you who want to go for a more classic ball gown there is the Sarah Houston range. Lily, pictured below, is especially beautiful, with floral lace detailing to make it extra girly – perfect for the 1950s princess!
It’s not just the wedding dresses that are going vintage, the accessories are too. Pearls, jewels and antique accessories are essential when trying to get the vintage look, but the key accessory this season has to be the birdcage veil. Julian MacDonald’s cream fascinator has pearls on it, making it perfect this trend, or you could try Marks and Spencer’s rose headpiece which is great for a girly bride.
Or for those of you who don’t want to wear a birdcage veil can go for a tiara such as this pearl and crystal one
The final touch to a vintage bride is the jewelry worn. Pearls will make any bride look chic, whilst glittering diamonds (or crystals) will add a bit of Hollywood Glam. This pearl and crystal bracelet does both of these jobs, while this Swarovski cuff bursts with glamour.
While brides are going vintage, bridesmaids are going mismatched and blue. This year brides-to-be have trusted their bridesmaids to pick their own dresses, meaning that each bridesmaid looks different and wears a dress that compliments them. Blue is big news this season, whether it’s turquoise, navy or pale-make sure you have your something blue on your big day. Luckily the high-street is full of beautiful blue dresses, perfect for bridesmaids:
